What happens when someone RSVPs no

A "can't make it" answer gets a thank-you, no reminders and no calendar invite, and shows as Not coming in Results.

Updated 2026-10-02

When your form asks whether people can come, the builder works out which question decides that and which answer means no. You don't mark anything yourself. Someone who answers no:

  • sees Thanks for letting us know instead of "You're in", and gets the same in their email, with no add-to-calendar;
  • gets no reminders, and doesn't take up a spot;
  • shows in Results, muted and tagged Not coming, with its own count next to Coming;
  • can still change their answer from the link in their email.

Your email about the response starts with "Can't make it" so you can tell at a glance.

Questions that are only yes or no

Only the one question about coming counts. "Can you bring a mahjong set?" or "Do you need a ride?" with a No answer is an ordinary question: that person is still coming.

How to check which answer counts

In the builder's form preview, the question that decides attendance has a small Smart RSVP tag; tap it to see which answer means not coming. The Overview tab says the same. If it picked the wrong question, or you want another answer to count as no, say so in chat ("the No on the mahjong question shouldn't count as not coming").
